blue blue blue ...berries of course!

It must be nearing end of summer, for the signs are everywhere. The foilage, although it is on the ground is turning bright reds and oranges. The blueberry is ripe and ready for picking. Best of all they are completely free. Hunting, fishing, sealing all require permits and equipment; boats, lures, weapons. Not free.

Blueberry requires no permits, and has no limits. If you've got time, they grow wild everywhere.
Picking fruit, in the sunshine, sprawled on the tundra is a far better use of a beautiful day then slogging away at the laundry.
I discovered, rather quickly that it is best to locate berry patch, find the bottom most part on the hill and then work your way up. It's much easier to find them if you look up at the plant. They try but can't hide their bluey blueness!

Post script to the ulu- I have not yet cut myself. It naturally moves in an outward motion.

Hei from the Old World,
Oh how I miss to pick those lovely blueberries! They are just what I would like to eat now.
We have cultivated here, they are bigger, softer and taste different.
I know some places in the forests around here for wild blueberries, but the plants are very poor and mostly without fruits at all.
When I was settled in Norway as well, the entire country seemed to have a carpet of them...
do you have cloudberries around?
Love them, too!!!
Thanx for placing me in your bloglist.
Good Night from Europe; bedtime here!!

Yummy! Blue Berries.
My brother brought me some wild ones from Thunder Bay!
As he was picking, he heard a rustle on the other side of the bush-a brown bear!
He yelled - "Hey! This is my bush.Go get your own." - as he wildly flailed his arms about!
Luckily, he didn't get eaten. I would have hated to go without my berries!!

Fortunately there are no bushes for bears to hide behind. No brown or black bears, but really who wants to take on the polar bear! Glad your berries and brother are safe!
